Health Matters Forum Health Matters Forum

Virtual Health Matters Forum for the Individual market

We were delighted to host our second virtual Health Matters Forum dedicated to supporting broker partners in the Individual market, on 22 September 2021.

Senior Aetna leaders provided valuable insights about our processes and the market, which is forecast to grow at 8% per annum over the next few years. One of our medical experts answered clinical related questions and explained how we can all continue to keep each other safe and help to reduce the chances of new variants of the coronavirus emerging.

In our Q&A session brokers asked a variety of questions on subjects from new products and member coverage to evacuations and vaccinations. As usual, the forum was the perfect opportunity for networking with peers and the Aetna team.

Please contact EMEA_Marketing@aetna.com if you’d like to find out more about this event or any other events for broker partners.

Forum focuses on the Individual market in Europe 20th April 2021

In April 2021 we hosted a virtual Health Matters Forum dedicated for our broker partners in the Individual market in Europe — a first for Aetna International.

Our senior leaders brought brokers up to speed on our products, discussed the key trends and challenges of the current market in view of COVID-19, and shared our plans for the year ahead. The pandemic has underlined the importance of mental as well as emotional and physical well-being and we explained how we’re supporting our brokers and members through comprehensive access to a range of innovative tools and apps, backed up by fully-trained medical professionals.

Double Olympian Jack Green told his own inspirational and moving story of his rise to become a world-class athlete and transition to his current role as a mental health ambassador and mentor. You’re welcome to listen to the recording of Jack’s presentation.

The event was very well received by the broker community, with one attendee commenting that it was “the best forum” they had attended.

Celebrating mental health at the InsideOut Awards 2021

We were proud to be part of the InsideOut Awards on 24 March, dedicated to promoting good mental health and the people and organisations who champion it. As part of our ongoing partnership with social enterprise InsideOut,which aims to smash the stigma of mental ill-health, we sponsored the Wellbeing Leader of the Year and Third Party Influencer categories.

The awards night, held virtually for the first time in the UK, was hosted by professional entertainer Em Stroud and included a DJ set by InsideOut founder Rob Stephenson. Over 250 guests enjoyed an evening of networking and entertainment, billed as the ‘best night in in 2021’.

The judges named 63 inspirational finalists from over 200 entries in 2019/2020. The 23 winning teams and individuals represented employers as diverse as universities, banks, consulting firms, NHS trusts, supermarkets and oil companies around the UK.

Proud sponsors and finalists

We were a finalist in the Best Mental Health Initiative in Lockdown category thanks to our many original initiatives that included ‘Let’s Get Talking’, ‘WISE‘ and ‘Step Around the World’. The judges were also impressed by the valuable resources we’ve made available to our employees to support their physical, emotional and mental well-being.

Damian Lenihan, Executive Director, Operations and Distribution, Europe, presented the awards on behalf of Aetna International. Rachel Czernobay, of international law firm CMS, picked up the prize for Wellbeing Leader of the Year. The Bank of England won the Third Party Influencer award for large companies, while the International WELL Building Institute won for SMEs. Congratulations to all three worthy winners!

Our first European broker event of 2021
23rd February 2021

We were delighted to be joined by our broker community for the first virtual Health Matters Forum of 2021. The event provided a great opportunity to discuss the ups and downs we have faced collectively over the past year.

During the event, senior leaders from Aetna International shared insights on present-day claim trends and how we’re continuing to support our members through the recent updates we’ve made to our products. The event finished with a clinical question time, covering topics from the challenges caused by the variant strains of the COVID virus to the importance of seeking medical advice early on, to mitigate potential negative effects of later diagnosis.

These valuable insights on what we have learned from the pandemic will help shape the year ahead.

MEA hold Virtual Summer Forum Event

Through the power of technology, our MEA team held their first virtual Summer Forum event, bringing together over 100 brokers from the MEA. Adapting to the changing environment, it was an innovative way to connect, discuss key market trends and share insights from the past six months.

With a focus on well-being and performance, Aetna spokespeople discussed current claim trends, the impact of COVID-19, support programmes for our members, and the future of telemedicine.

In between each presentation, brokers had the opportunity to virtually network with people from various markets and reflect on their experiences.

Marco Bannerman, Executive Director, MEA, commented “Even though we were not able to meet in person this year, our Summer Forum event was a huge success. As a company, we have adapted to the changing situation and developed innovative solutions to stay connected to our brokers and partners. A collaborative effort from everyone – thank you”.

The event was greatly received, with many commenting on how engaged they felt throughout the day. Thank you to everyone involved for playing a key part in another stage of Aetna’s 20 year journey in the region as we continually strive to support our members’ overall health and well-being.

Resilience, Well-being and Performance: Our first virtual broker event

We would have loved to hold our summer Health Matters Forum 2020 with our European brokers in person but, unfortunately, that was not to be. However, as we firmly believe that staying connected is vital, our innovative team came up with a way of carrying out the event virtually instead!

Using a virtual conference room, our brokers were able to network with colleagues, peers and the Aetna team. Aetna personnel took the opportunity to share business updates, including an overview of our well-being proposition and the timely introduction of Wysa, an AI chatbox app that helps get members on the path to better health. This was followed by our guest speakers who focused on confidence, well-being and performance. They included presentations from Track Record, who specialise in resilience coaching, double Olympic medallist Hannah Macleod MBE, and Rob Stephenson, the mental health campaigner. We also gave brokers the chance to learn more about how to improve their own well-being and performance, by wearing one of Track Record’s heart rate variability monitors for three consecutive days before the forum. And of course, it wouldn’t be our summer broker event without concluding proceedings with some fun and games.

The feedback has been fantastic, with many commenting on how engaged they felt throughout the day. We also know, using Rob’s form score as a measurement, that we boosted collective well-being by a huge 18%. Thank you to everyone who attended for making this such a successful event.

G24 The Global Mental Health Summit Logo

David Healy and Sneh Khemka speak at the world’s first 24-hour mental health conference, G24

As a response to the mental health and well-being challenges faced during these uncertain times, the world’s first 24-hour global mental health summit was held on 18 May to bring the world together virtually on the mental health agenda.

We were proud to be a part of this conversation as David Healy, CEO EMEA and Dr Sneh Khemka, VP of Population Health at Aetna International discussed the business of health, including the new definition of workplace well-being and how that translates into individuals and their teams.

You can also read this article by Dr Sneh Khemka, which reflects on the well-being lessons learnt  that will help businesses move forward and minimise the emotional and mental impact of COVID-19 for employees.

During this event, brokers heard about the latest developments and innovations at Aetna International, including the launch of vHealth at Home. It was a great opportunity to hear back from our brokers on market position and perception.
